South Eastern Rly Posts 9.42% Increase In Freight Loading

The South Eastern Railway has recorded a 9.42 per cent increase in freight loading in the first month of this fiscal itself. Loading of earning freight stood at 13.81 million tonnes (mt) last month, 1.19 million tonnes higher than in April 1999. The freight traffic including 7.61 mt of coal loading, 0.69 mt higher than in April last year. Of this, 5.04 mt went to power houses, 1.65 mt to steel mills, 0.12 mt to washeries and 0.80 mt to other coal users. The increase in freight loading also including higher despactches of raw materials to steel plants, more finished products from steel plants and fertiliser units, and, a higher movement of foodgrains.
