Swedish telecom group Ericsson said on Monday that it and Finlands Nokia will cooperate on a new Wideband Code Division Multiple Access technology for the third generation of wideband cellular systems. Reuter
The two companies are also supporting efforts by Asian and
European authorities to standardise the new technology, Ericsson said in a statement.
The users of the system will be able to get access to several different services over a single terminal.
Users can use video conferencing while at the same time have access to Internet and Intranet applications, exchanging mails, or transferring large data files.
The companies will establish a test environment by the end of this year and the commercial launch is scheduled for 2001.
