India had a mixed day in Squash as Joshana Chinappa lost a frustrating quarterfinal against Canada in Women's Singles. She seemed more worried by the umpire's decision than her on-field play, leaving four-game points opportunities in the third set to make a comeback. Saurav Ghosal though made no such mistakes and won his Men's Singles Quarterfinal against Scotland 3-1 to march into the semis.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: India won three medals today

 

The Indian contingent maintained its pace in the Commonwealth Games even on day four as it marched into the final of three events to target at least three gold medals on day five of the event. However, on day four, it could not get any gold.

 

Sushila Devi Likmabam reached close to winning the yellow metal in the Women's 48 kg category in Judo but lost to South Africa in the final. Another Indian Judoka Vijay Yadav won bronze while Harjinder Kaur fetched a lucky bronze medal in the Women's 71 kg category of the Weightlifting event.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: India makes it to the Men’s Team Table Tennis Final, beat Nigeria 3-0

 

The Indian Men’s Table Tennis team registered another straight 3-0 win to reach the final of the event. They beat Nigeria in the Men’s Doubles and two Men’s Singles games played by Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Ganasekaran, to complete a 3-0 score. The Men’s team will defend its title against Singapore in the final.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: Achanta Sharath Kama gives India a 2-0 lead in the TT Semi-Final

 

India have taken a 2-0 lead in the Men’s Team Table Tennis Semi-Final against Nigeria at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. After winning the Men’s Doubles tie 3-0, India’s ace paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal beat Nigeria’s number one Aruna Qadari 3-1 to hand India the lead. Now, the Indian team requires only one win in the last three matches to secure a medal and a place in the final in defence of their Gold Coast gold medal.

Indian Swimmer Srihari Nataraj continued his good run in the Men’s Backstroke competition as he registered a timing of 25.23 in the Men’s 100 M Backstroke final to finish at a respectable fifth position. He had also made it to the final of the Men’s 50 M Backstroke event too.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: Clean sweep in Boxing on Day 4 for India, Ashish advances to last 8

 

India’s Ashish Kumar made sure that the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham remained a good day for Indian Boxing as he beat his Round of 16 opponent from Niu to advance to the quarterfinal of the Men’s 80 kg category. He won by a unanimous decision of 5:0 by the judges. 

 

Earlier in the day, Amit Panghal and Mohd Hussamuddin won their respective Round of 16 bouts too to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: India’s Harjinder Kaur gets lucky bronze in Weightlifting

 

It was out of the blue that India's Harjinder Kaur, who lifted only 119 kg, 2kg less than her personal best of 121 kg in clean and jerk, managed to secure herself at least a bronze medal in Women’s 71 kg category of Weightlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. 

 

Nigerian weightlifter who lifted 100 kg in Snatch, seven more than Harjinder, failed to lift any weight in her Clean and Jerk attempts and was thus ruled out of the medal contention. 

 

Harjinder was earlier thought to be out of the medal contention as the coaches advised her to lift only 119 kg, assuming that the Candian lifter, who was behind her by two kgs, won’t be able to lift her next attempt, which was seven kgs more than her last attempt. However, as luck would have it, India and Harjinder now have a bronze. England’s Sarah Davies won the gold while Canada’s Alexis Ashworth won the silver medal.

The team would now face Malaysia in the final.

India’s Harjinder Kaur, who is participating in the Women’s 71 Kg Weightlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, lifted 93 kg in the Snatch round to stay at the fourth position among 11 lifters.

Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 LIVE: England snatches draw from jaws of defeat in hockey

The Indian team suffered a heavy blow as it leads its 3-1 lead at the end of the third quarter slipped away in the fourth quarter against hosts England in a group match of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. It conceded three goals in the last quarter as the men in blue were forced to play with only nine players for the most part of the last quarter, getting two yellow cards, with the last one counting for 10 minutes of suspension of Gurjant. 

 

Courtesy of this draw, India would now have to earn big wins against Wales and Canada to make sure that they finish at the top of their group ahead of England to avoid Australia in the semis.

The Indian hockey team, true to its original nature of choking in the final moments, once again choked and got two yellow cards and was forced to play with nine players for almost the entire last quarter.
