The West Indies cricket team will now head back home as the first team to be clean swept by India throughout the tour as they lost the three-match T20I series 3-0 as well. India cricket team defeated the men in maroon by 17 runs in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. 

 

Chasing 185, West Indies were not able to get over the lines once again. Nicholas Pooran was at the centre of things for the Wets Indies once again as he had two good partnerships of 47 and 48 runs with Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd before eventually getting out on the first ball of the 18th over when West Indies needed 37 to win from the last three overs with settled pair of Shepherd and Pooran at the crease. 

 

Shardul Thakur removed Pooran and thereafter a great 19th over from Harshal Patel meant that India had the match in the bag. For India, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur and Venkatesh Iyer picked two wickets each while Harshal Patel picked three wickets. 

 

Earlier in the day, thanks to a great Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer show where they gathered 86 in the last five overs, India managed to get to 184-5 in the 20 overs, after being 98-5 at the end of the 15th over.

 

The toss between India skipper Rohit Sharma and his West Indian counterpart- Kieron Pollard was won by the latter who chose to bowl first.

With this victory, India have now become the number one T20I side as they win their ninth consecutive game in a row and take over England at the top of the table. India, who have won the T20I series 3-0, also won the ODIs 3-0.
