IPL 2022 GT vs LSG Live Score | Match Summary

 

The chase did not start well for the Giants as they lost opener Shubman Gill in the first over and also lost Vijay Shankar soon. Hardik Pandya and Matthew Wade built a 57 run stand and gave some momentum to the chase before both of them were cleaned up quickly by spinners. Gujarat Titans needed 67 off the last five overs and it was then that Tewatia and Miller teed off and got the team to needing just 21 off 15 balls before their stand was broken. 

 

In the end, with 11 needed off the last 6, Abhinav Sadaeangani and Tewatia did it in style. 

 

Earlier in the evening, after being asked to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants were in all sorts of bother at 29-4 in the first five overs before Deepak Hooda and debutant Ayush Badoni hit the fifties and with the help of a useful contribution with the bat from Krunal Pandya, took the LSG to 158/6 in their quota of 20 overs, Mohammed Shami picked three wickets for the Titans

Gujarat Titans win the first match of their Indian Premier League campaign as Abhinav Manohar and Rahul Tewatia compiled on the good batting from David Miller in the end and won the match by wickets. Courtesy of this win, it is now the fourth game in a row that has been won by the chasing team and the third game in a row which has been won by the chasing side needing more than 10 runs an over in the last five overs with five wickets down.

20 needed off two and it is Abhinav Sadarangani on the strike and Dushmanatha Chameera will bowl it. 

 

Four!! Poor from Chameera to bowl full after having his mid-off and mid-on in the 30-yard circle. But credit to Abhinav as he hit it straight down the ground 

 

16 off 10 now and yet another slower one and just one-off this one. Now 15 off 9 needed 

 

Dot ball!! That right here is gold dust here from Chameera. It was a length ball and could have been hit for a six or four but instead gets away with it

Six!! Tewatia has reverse swept this for a six !! You have read that right, reverse swept for a six is what it is and now the required runs come down to 40 off 23 balls. 

 

Ravi Bishnoi is under the pump here and has bowled a wide and this is a great save down the leg from Quinton de Kock. 

 

Four!! Poor bowling and timid approach from Bishnoi as after being reverse swept off the googly, he has gone back to leg spinner and you can't bowl that to left-handers. 

 

Four once again. I can't understand what brains he is using here because he is bowling leg-breaks continuously to left-handers and getting hit for four. 17 come from this over. Gujarat now need just 29 off the last three

The Gujarat Titans needed 68 off the last five and Deepak Hooda was given the ball against the left-handers being an off-spinner. However, he has been smoked here. First Tewatia hit a six off the very first ball to deep mid-wicket and then hit a four straight down the ground

 

And now miller comes into the action. That has been swept for a four to deep fine leg

There is dew on the ground and it is clearly evident from the fact that Ravi Bishnoi is drying the ball by the inside of his track pocket which is a dry product. 

 

So far only three runs have come off the first five balls of the over as both the left-handers, Tewatia and Miller are unable to get the hang of the ball and hit it big

With Rashid Khan the only recognized batter to come now, the Gujarat Titans really have no other option but to stretch this game as much as possible. They are currently 88/4 and need 70 off the last six overs. It is not impossible, definitely not after what we saw in the last two games and with Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals winning it after losing four wickets early. But the question is, can Miller and Tewatia do it?

The wicket brings yet another left-hander here and it is Rahul Tewatia. Known for his big-hitting, Tewatia wasn't given the ball during Gujarat's bowling which was weird by all means. But now he has the bat in hand and he can surely wield the willow. But can he do it is the question? Time will tell soon

Wicket!! Off-spinner introduced into the attack as there are two left-handers and it is Deepak Hooda who has been introduced and he has got the wicket as well. This is brilliant captaincy from KL Rahul one must say. It was just short of good length, Wade went for the sweep expecting turn, but it didn't turn at all and hit the timber of the Aussie who goes for 30 off 29 balls.

Comedy of errors!! There was a midfield first at mid-off as Wade played it straight to the fielder and the fielder misfielded and then the fielder running from sweeper cover and the one running from long-of got confused as to who was picking the ball and had a small collision with each other but managed to save the ball from going for four

 

Four!! But this time around, he could not save the ball as it went for four past mid-off. It was hit fiercely but was in the air too, just a bit away from the fielder

Ravi Bishnoi comes into the attack now and he starts by teasing Matthew Wade on the first three balls but on the fourth one as this time around it was shorter than the first three balls and Wade rocked back and cut it four past cover and mid-off 

 

Bishnoi's stock ball is not a leg break and batters must be aware of that otherwise he will ruin the batter with ease if they play him as a leg-break bowler. Only 5 from the over as the Powerplay is now over with GT at 44-2 and that would bring in the strategic Time Out as well

Left-arm fast bowler, Mohsin Khan comes into the attack as Avesh Khan is given only one over from that end. 

 

Four!! Can't bowl Hardik on the legs, It was mentioned earlier too. Mohsin here was greedy and wanted to bring the ball back in from the middle stump but instead got it on his legs and Panday with a flick of the wrists send it for four to deep mid-wicket. 

 

Misfield! That was very poor from the LSG captain Rahul as he was unable to collect the ball which came straight to him and allowed it to go through his legs and Pandya collected a single
