Though Daniel Sams evidently seemed like the sole reason for Mumbai's thrilling win, Tim David's contribution, where he scored 44* off just 21 balls, could not be ignored either as he was the reason that Mumbai could get to a total that was worth fighting for. Courtesy of that reason, he was chosen as the Player of the Match for this game.

GT vs MI Live Updates: Match Summary

 

Daniel Sams defended nine runs of the last six balls against David Miller and Rahul Tewatia two win the match for Mumbai Indians by 5 runs against table-toppers Gujarat Titans. It was one of the brilliant last overs bowled and probably the best of this season so far as Tewati and Miller, the two most feared batters in death were unable to get the slower ones away.

 

The Titans eventually could make only three runs off the last over to lose a game that was served to them on a platter by their openers who put on 106 for the first wicket in only 12 overs, chasing 178 at Brabourne which is the most batting-friendly wicket this IPL. 

 

Apart from Sams, Murugiuan Ashwin bowled a game-changing over too where he dismissed both the Gujarat openers in one over to give Mumbai the chance to fight back. 

 

Earlier in the evening, after being asked to bat first and getting off to a flyer where the openers scored 74 in the first seven overs, Mumbai Indians lost the plot and were staring down at a low total after Kieron Pollard ate up 17 balls to score only 8 runs. But thanks to an attacking onslaught from Tim David, Mumbai managed to finish at 177/6 in their 20 overs.

Ball 4  Rashid Khan is here and at the crease and he hits it one in the air and Daniel Sams almost gets to it running back. For a fast bowler to do that, it would have been amazing. Only a single here though 

 

Ball 5  Six needed off the last two balls and Miller is on strike and Sams bowls a brilliant length ball and it was a slower one too and Miller misses 

 

Six of one needed and Sams could now redeem himself from the shocker he was subjected to by Pat Cummins earlier in the tournament 

 

Ball 6 Wow!! This is Daniel Sams at his best as he deceives the Killer Miller with a slower one that was almost as full as it gets and it has the feel of Malinga in it as well with the in-dipper that one. Oh, Daniel Sams you redeemer of a different kind.

Ball 2 Brilliant bowling from Bumrah as he almost bowled Miller with a slow cutter

 

Ball 3  Slower one from Bumrah and Miller could only play it to deep mid-wicket for a single 

 

Ball 4  Tewatia tries to find the gap between the point and the backward point but is unable to. However he gets a single 

 

Ball 5  Six!! It is not the Iceman, but Killer Miller with a killer blow as he picked up the slower ball and dispatched it over deep mid-wicket for a six. 

 

Ball 6 Can Bumrah get a wicket off the last ball here? Not really but he concedes only one and now it seems that the six was the game-changer.
