Emotional and happy to embrace each other: Mary Kom congratulates Chanu

Boxer Mary Kom on Sunday congratulated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu for winning a silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

Mirabai Chanu opened India's medals tally on Saturday as she bagged a silver in the Women's 49kg category at Tokyo International Forum.

"Congratulations @mirabai_chanu. Emotional and happy to embrace each other. A proud Manipuri and a fighter for India in one frame," tweeted Mary Kom.

Tokyo Olympics: Dominos India announces lifetime free pizza for Mirabai Chanu

In a sweet gesture, Pizza chain Domino's has announced that they would be offering weightlifter Mirabai Chanu "free pizza" for the rest of her life.

Mirabai Chanu opened India's medals tally on Saturday as she bagged a silver in the Women's 49kg category at Tokyo International Forum.

After the feat, the restaurant chain said they never want Mirabai Chanu to wait to eat a Pizza.

Rowers Arjun, Arvind produce best-ever Indian performance at Olympics, sail to double sculls semis

Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh on Sunday produced the best-ever Olympic performance by Indian rowers as they cruised into the men's lightweight double sculls semifinals at the Tokyo Games.

The Indian duo clocked 6:51.36 to finish third in the repechage round at the Sea Forest Waterway.

"We followed exactly whatever had been told to us by our coach. The coach told us that we should try to get the best position for India," the duo said.

"It's (rowing) not a very popular sport in India. So our coach told us that getting to the semifinals is also a big motivation for us, and we had to do our best."

Poland's Jerzy Kowalski and Artur Mikolajczewski finished at the top with a timing of 6:43.44, followed by Spain's Caetano Horta Pombo and Manel Balastegui, who clocked 6:45.71 in the repechage 2.

While Arjun assumes the role of the bower, Arvind is the team's stroker. The two had finished fifth in their heats on Saturday.

The Indian Women's Hockey Team showed a lot of character when they took on World Number 1 Netherlands in their first Tokyo Olympics match on Saturday.

Even though the national side went down 5-1, they put up a strong fight throughout the match. The Indian Women's Hockey Team will certainly look to make improvements when they take on the World Number 3 side Germany at the Oi Hockey Stadium on Monday.

The German side defeated Great Britain 2-1 in their first Pool A match on Sunday.

The Indian Women's Hockey Team Captain Rani, who scored the only goal for India in their match against the Netherlands, expressed that the team can take a lot of confidence from the way they played against the Dutch.

Olympics swimming: Tunisian Hafnaoui creates history; Australia sets world record

 
 
 
 
Eighteen-year-old Ahmed Hafnaoui of Tunisia stunned the pool when he swam an event-winning time of three minutes and 43.36 seconds in the men's 400m freestyle, as the first four swimming medals of the 2021 Olympic Games were awarded Sunday.
 
The 18-year-old youngster also ended the dominance of Australia, New Zealand and Asian nations in men's 400m freestyle. A swimmer from outside Asia or Oceania has not won a gold medal in the event at the Olympic Games since Barcelona 1992.
 
In the women's 400m freestyle relay final, Australia grabbed a new world record in 3:29.69. The previous two records were also held by the Australians. Canada and America took the silver and bronze respectively. China broke the Asian record in 3:34.76.
 
Yui Ohashi won the women's 400m individual medley gold for Japan in 4:32.08. American swimmer Emma Weyant and Hali Flickinger shared the podium.
 
In men's 400m IM, Rio Olympics runner-up Chase Kalisz of the United States claimed the gold in 4:09.42. American Jay Litherland made the podium with a silver in 4:10.28. The 21-year-old Australian Brendon Smith, who finished 4:09.27 in the qualifier, struck a bronze in 4:10.38.

Golf world No 1 Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau test positive for Covid-19, out of Tokyo Olympics

American golfer Bryson DeChambeau and world No. 1 Jon Rahm will miss the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after getting tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Kyodo News, Spanish Olympic Committee confirmed that Rahm has pulled out of the showpiece event. The third PCR test returned a positive result, the committee said.

On the other hand, DeChambeau tested positive for COVID-19 prior to departing for Tokyo, the USA Golf informed.
