Olympic silver-medallist Mirabai Chanu returns to warm reception

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu returned to the country on Monday after her superb silver medal-winning performance at the Tokyo Olympics and was greeted enthusiastically at the airport.

 

Chanu walked out of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, flanked by security and clad in a face shield and mask.

 

"Happy to be back here in amidst so much love and support. Thank You so much," she tweeted after landing.

Dutch tennis player tests positive at Tokyo Olympics

 

Dutch tennis player Jean-Julien Rojer has tested positive for Covid-19 at the Tokyo Olympics, the International Tennis Federation confirmed on Monday.

 

Rojer and his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof were forced to withdraw from their second-round match following news of his positive test.

 

With this latest positive case,the total number of Covid cases at the Tokyo Olympics has gone up to 61.

Olympic broadcasters curb sexual images of female athletes

At an Olympics aiming to set the highest level of television standards, the head of broadcasting at the Tokyo Games is trying to banish overly sexualized images of female athletes.

 

"Sport appeal, not sex appeal" is one mantra Olympic officials push in an effort to reach gender equity on the field of play and on screen.

 

"You will not see in our coverage some things that we have been seeing in the past, with details and close-up on parts of the body," Olympic Broadcasting Services chief executive Yiannis Exarchos said Monday.

 

Gymnasts from Germany sent a message against uniforms they believe exploit their sexuality by competing in Tokyo wearing unitards that covered their legs to the ankle.

Olympics 2021 live updates: Sajan Prakash finishes fourth in Heat 2, 24th overall

Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash failed to qualify for the men's 200m butterfly semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics after finishing fourth in Heat 2 here on Monday.

Prakash, who clocked a personal best of 1:56:38 in Italy last month to breach the A mark for Olympic qualification, could only manage 1:57.22 to finish 24th among 38 swimmers. The top-16 progressed to the semifinals.

Prakash will compete in the 100m Butterfly on Thursday.

The other Indians at the Olympics, Maana Patel and Srihari Nataraj, have already exited the competition.

Ashish Kumar tries his all to impress the judges but after failingto do so in the first two rounds, he looks for something spectacular in the third round. It seems it's a bit to late as his opponent dodges the attack. Kumar soaks up the attack from his opponent, moves ahead, lands a few punches, gets a few in return. Up goes the bell Kumar also knows that he is behind in this round as well. It's a unanimous decision and Erbieke Tuoheta wins it.
