The Indian industry is expecting animation and gaming to gradually evolve into a full-fledged career option among youth, according to K Rajesh Rao, chief executive of Bangalore-based game development company Dhruva Interactive.
“The Ministry of Human Resource Development has already identified animation and gaming as one of the focus areas of talent development,” he said at a press conference on the sidelines of Nasscom’s Animation and Gaming Summit 2009 in Hyderabad on Friday.
A career in the entertainment industry was not considered as a mainstream profession earlier. But, with the influx of television channels, it is a sought-after profession. Though animation and gaming is still not a mainstream profession, the industry hopes the demand to increase, he said.
The Indian animation industry is projected to touch $1 billion by 2012, as compared with $494 million in 2008, while the global animation industry is likely to grow at a CAGR of 10 per cent to $100 billion in 2012 from $68 billion in 2008.
Besides, to create a vibrant gaming culture in the country, the industry is developing customised content on all platforms including mobile, online, desktop and consoles.
