In an effort to spread broadband penetration in rural areas in Himachal Pradesh, wired line connections will be provided in rural and remote areas of the hill state at affordable prices, a spokesman of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) said here on Friday.
At least 28,000 existing rural wire line exchanges under of the universal service obligation fund (USOF) will be provided this subsidy support.
“From each exchange, a maximum of 32 connections, including 25 individuals, six government institutions and one kiosk would be subsidised by USOF in the state,” the official said.
The government will provide subsidy up to Rs 850 for individual and government organisations for the first 31 connections. They will also be eligible for Rs 4,500 computer subsidy.
Self-help groups will also be provided at least one connection per exchange on a preferential basis. BSNL will also provide one kiosk for every exchange and they will remain open from 8 am to 4 pm.
