Cisco Systems, the global leader in networking for the Internet, today announced plans to address the needs of the burgeoning small and medium business (SMB) segment in Rajasthan.

The company unveiled its "Network On Wheels" (NOW), a mobile showcase of customised Cisco networking solutions, including advanced technologies such as security, wireless and unified IP communications, aimed to tap fast-growing sectors like manufacturing electrical goods, transformers, conductors, textiles and gem and jewellery in and around Jaipur.

According to an Access Markets International (AMI) Partners study, there are an estimated 7.6 million SMBs in India. These SMBs are set to spend $7.7 billion to beef up their infotech infrastructure and solutions, up 26 per cent over last year.

A third of these anticipate a 20 per cent increase in their annual revenues, and will therefore boost their IT spending, according to the latest study. Networking forms the backbone of all IT and telecom investments and is a key component of the overall expenditure.

Speaking at the launch, Cisco Systems (India & SAARC)National Business Development Manager Suprabhat Chatterjee said, "SMBs have to be poised for the sweeping changes that are taking place propelled by an open economy. Traditional industries including textiles, manufacturing and jewellery are finding an increased need to adopt advanced telecommunication technologies such as VoIP (Internet telephony), IP-based PBX and Centrex systems to stay globally competitive. While technology is viewed as the driver for increasing operating efficiencies, SMBs are yet to realise the implication of technology as a strategic business tool."

The Cisco NOW programme aims to address this awareness gap by showcasing a complete range of customised Cisco networking solutions for SMBs across technologies such as routing, switching, security, wireless, voice and video. It is among the largest marketing initiatives in India by Cisco and is a key pillar of its SMB strategy."

Favorable business conditions have led to the rapid proliferation of regional clusters in the country. Rajasthan has particularly experienced rapid industrial growth and this has had an impact on Jaipur's industrial scene.

These industries include textiles, followed by manufacturing, gems and jewellery, cement and cement products, ceramics, glassware, minerals and stones and leather. Even the state government is planning to concentrate on these existing resources and develop them further.

Cisco will develop domain-specific solutions to help SMB customers in each of these sub vertical plans, design and operate business critical networks more efficiently.

Under the programme, Cisco has created a customised van with a live network environment on board. The 'Network on Wheels' van is a 25 foot mobile showcase equipped with the latest Cisco networking Solutions.

The mobile van will visit strategic industrial locations across key tier I, II and III cities and host live demonstrations for more than 100 customers per city in the country.

The Cisco NOW van will demonstrate for SMBs exciting interactive technology solutions designed to enhance their competitive advantage, maximise productivity and ROI, enhance customer care and loyalty, increase user satisfaction and reduce operation costs - ultimately driving business growth.

Some cities, that the NOW van will cover, include Lucknow, Coimbatore, Hubli, Guwhati, Raipur, Rajkot and Surat among others.

Cisco Systems, Inc (NASDAQ: CSCO), the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, celebrates 20 years of commitment to technology innovation, industry leadership and corporate social responsibility.
