Newgen Software Technologies has implemented workflow and document management systems in three key Gujarat government undertakings "" Gujarat State Fertilisers Corporation, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company (GNFC) and Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals (GACL).

The software solution has been implemented in the purchase department of these companies. Newgen hopes to implement it other departments too. The company is eyeing business with other state PSUs.

"We started off with a project with GSFC, which purchases materials worth about Rs 1,200 crore a year. Subsequently, we also bagged orders from GNFC and GACL, all of which have been implemented. Newgen also looks to closely work with agencies in Gujarat on e-governance projects," said Punit Jain, vice-president, sales and marketing, Newgen Software Technologies. Each of the three projects is worth Rs 12-15 lakh.

Jain said the time consumed for purchasing goods and raw materials, which normally used to be weeks in a PSU, has been reduced to a few days after implementing the solution.

OmniDocs, the solution which has been installed in the three companies, helps archiving, retrieval and management of various sources of information.

"OmniDocs allows to maintain a common repository of scanned and electronic documents," Jain said.

The company provides services in six verticals "" banking, insurance, telecom, e-governance, BPO and manufacturing.

"Insurance is one area that is picking up fast of late as all companies want to be leaner and faster. However, banking and e-governance also are fast increasing in importance," he said.

Operational in 20 countries, about 40 per cent of Newgen's business comes from local markets. The remaining 60 per cent is from overseas markets.

"However, the growth has been the fastest in projects completed within the country. We now aim to expand our presence in the UK and the US," Jain said.
