Satyam Computer Services has announced setting up of an Automotive Centre for Excellence (ACE) to offer automotive industry specific solutions in the automotive capital of the world, Detroit, US. | |
| The company is also looking at setting up three more such centres in Germany, Japan and in India (Chennai) over the next year or so and has chalked out a budget of $2 million, which will go into creating infrastructure, equipment and others for these four centres. Besides, it is also expected to spend about $5-7 million year-on-year as an ongoing investment for these centres, initially. |

| "With these four integrated facilities, we will be closer to where the action is," Subu D Subramanian, director & senior vice-president (manufacturing and automotive businesses), said to reporters from Detroit through a video conference. |

| Built over 6000 sq ft area in central Detroit, a $600-billion business opportunity hub, ACE will initially house about 50 consultants and offer not just offshoring solutions but also other portfolio of services like system integration, design and development, consulting services by leveraging its onsite-offshore delivery model. |

| The company's endeavour is to work as business partner at the global level, understand the opportunities and leverage the technology to provide solutions to enhance the business value of the stakeholders, he added. |

| Kenneth Taormina, senior vice-president (manufacturing), Satyam, said that ACE would hire 5-6 senior level vice-presidents with experience in automotive industry, discrete manufacturing, industrial equipment, and the process industry. |

| This team will be supported by another team, which will comprise solution architects with experience in industry in architecting, developing and consulting services. |

| Subramanian said the centre would also participate in leading research and development initiatives. |

| It would also forge tie-ups with industry technology providers, leading institutes like MIT in the US and CSIR in India for basic knowledge and trend to leverage the emerging innovation concepts. |

| Automotive practice currently accounts for 12 per cent of Satyam's revenue. The company sees this share going up in the near future due to centre for excellence initiative and emerging opportunities from European and Japanese companies. |
