"The state government is allotting about 1.2 acres of land to set up the facility. STPI will spend Rs 2 crore on this project," B Prabhakar Rao, member of the STPI standing executive board, and chairman of Visakhapatnam Information Technology Association (VITA), told Business Standard.
He said STPI was setting up the incubation centre, which can have facilities like plug-and-play to start the software operations without any delay.
It was planning to develop this through public-private-partnership or a joint development model. Besides, STPI had decided to set up IT incubation centres at Vijayawada and Tirupati and an STPI centre at Kakinada with an investment of over Rs 8 crore, he added.
Companies like Sharp India Limited and Xalted Information System are planning to locate their operations at Tirupati and the state government has already agreed to hand over the two existing buildings, which would be developed into a state-of-the-art incubation facility by STPI.
The Centre has given its consent to set up the STPI centre at Kakinada. Now, STPI has sought 3 acres of land, 20,000-sq ft building and a grant of Rs 1 crore to set up the proposed centre at Kakinada.
