The main purpose of a smartphone is no longer the same as that of a normal mobile phone, say, ten years ago. Making calls and sending messages are secondary to the smartphone's more diversified entertainment functions. Considering that, at Rs 9,999,  Micromax's Yureka Plus  has a few good things to offer- its 5.5 inch full high definition IPS display being one of them.

It's a refreshing change for those looking for a break from the usual Samsung-esque display common to most Android devices, the well-designed screen layout is a testament to its good display properties. Its 13-megapixel rear camera, which comes with adjustable exposure and ISO options, is the best thing about the phone, hands down. The five-megapixel front camera is also a plus, especially for selfie-enthusiasts.  This, then, is a cheap option for those who enjoy gaming, mobile videography, photography, and in-mobile photo and video-editing thanks to its Qualcomm Adreno 405 GPU, designed to facilitate increased visual details in 3D imagery, enabling smooth frame rates and full HD video with H.265 HEVC support.

The cons, however, are major, its 2500 mAh battery being one of the main let-downs. Before using it, when the phone was fully charged and left on and unused, without a SIM card and with no running applications, the battery went down from 100 to 39 per cent in about 24 hours. To add to that, its sluggishness when running and loading as few as just two basic applications like phone and messaging, is another downer because it is quite a departure from the performance promised by its Octa core Snapdragon 615 processor with a 64-bit multi-core CPU. Another miss are the phone's slow-to-respond capacitative buttons The smooth screen movement when switching and slick transition somewhat make up for these issues, but not entirely.

All that aside, the most tiresome thing about this device is the process of actually acquiring it. Available only through a flash sale on Amazon starting Friday at 12 noon, The Yureka Plus comes in ‘Alabaster White’ and Moondust colours, the registrations for which opened yesterday.
