The Kolkata-based Linc Pen & Plastics Ltd, one of the India’s leading players in writing instruments market, is planning to build a greenfield facility at Umbergaon (Gujarat) for manufacturing pens. “With a view to strengthen its manufacturing footprint, the board at its meeting discussed about the new manufacturing unit at Umbergaon, Gujarat,” said the company in a BSE filing today.

The proposed plant, to be built with an investment of Rs 26 crore, will have capacity to produce 1.25 crore pens per month. The company is aiming to complete the construction of the new plant by June 2017.

According to the company officials, the company is currently facing constraints with respect to the production infrastructure. Since further scaling-up is not feasible in its existing units at Falta SEZ and Serakole (both in the outskirts of Kolkata, West Bengal), the company is contemplating a unit at a new location. The new plant is expected to increase the total capacity by about 25 percent.

“The company need enhancement in its existing capacity to cater to the incremental demand in export and domestic market,” added Linc Pen.

The company manufactures diverse products such as ball pens, gel pens, direct fill pens, ball pen refills and stationary products, among others, across its two factories. The company has expertise in the management of diverse processes (injection moulding, extrusion, auto-refilling, assembling and checking as well as packaging). Linc uses extrusion technology to manufacture refill tubes and barrels used in the manufacture of direct fill pens.
