State Assembly polls 2023 LIVE: Amit Shah to hold rally in Telangana today

The voting for 230 Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, and 70 out of 90 Assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh was held on November 17. The polling in Madhy Pradesh concluded at 6 pm, while in Chhattisgarh, it concluded at 5 pm. 

A total of 958 candidates, including chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo, eight state ministers, and four Members of Parliament, are eyeing for victory in the battle for 70 seats in Chhattisgarh. In Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, a total of 2,533 candidates are in the fray with the main battle for power between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress. Over 56 million voters were eligible to exercise their franchise on Friday.

BJP will win 52-54 seats in Chhattisgarh, says former CM Raman Singh

Former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice-president Raman Singh said, "The BJP is going to win 52-54 seats in the polls. We are forming the government in the state." He added that a post-poll survey by the party in each Assembly constituency in the state has "clearly" indicated that the BJP would secure 52-54 seats.

Singh further said that the collective leadership and the elected legislators of the party would decide who would be the chief minister, if the BJP comes to power in the state.

More than Rs 1,760 crore worth cash and goods seized ahead of state Assembly polls 2023: EC

The Election Commission of India stated that it had conducted seizures worth over Rs 1,760 crore in all poll-bound state: Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telengana, and Mizoram. This is 636 per cent more than what was seized during the elections in these five states in 2018  (Rs 239.15 cr).

Addressing a rally in Pali, ahead of Rajasthan state Assembly elections, Prime Minister Modi says, "The entire country has seen what Congress and the 'Ghamandia' alliance have said about 'Sanatan'. They want to eradicate 'Sanatan'. Eradicating 'Sanatan' means eradicating the culture of Rajasthan."

 

He also added that Congress only known "dynastic politics", stating, "Today, we are working hard to become a developed nation. For this, a government which gives priority to development is needed in Rajasthan. Nothing is more important than corruption and familial politics for Congress. This party doesn't think of anything other than appeasement politics."

Re-polling ordered at booth in MP's Ater Assembly constituency

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered re-polling on November 21 at a booth in the Ater Assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district. Repolling has been ordered because of a breach of secrecy as some people shot videos of voting on November 17 at the booth concerned in Kishupura.
 

District collector and returning officer Sanjeev Shrivastava told news agency PTI that four members of the polling team have been suspended for the breach of secrecy.
