Lokpal orders CBI to probe TMC leader Mahua Moitra under Section 20(3)(a) for 'quid pro quo' regarding questions raised in Parliament. “We direct the CBI, under Section 20(3)(a) to investigate all aspects of the allegations made in the complaint, and submit a copy of the Investigation Report within a period of six months from the date of receipt of this order. India gained global recognition in Modi years, says former president Kovind

Former president Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said the country has gained global recognition in recent years, recalling his visits abroad when the prime minister and the president of host countries would vie with each other to receive the Indian president at the airport.

 

Addressing the ninth convocation of Central University in Bhatinda, Kovind said whenever he travelled abroad as President he was received at the airport by his counterpart.

 

He said this was contrary to the earlier protocol when the Indian president would be received by a minister who would escort him to the presidential palace or a hotel.

 

But this changed with the Narendra Modi government, according to Kovind.

 

I am not standing here to praise Modi ji but the name has to be taken," he said.

BJP demanded ‘extortion money’ through electoral bonds, claims SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav

The Bharatiya Janata Party has been accused of demanding extortion money through electoral bonds by creating fear, claimed Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav. The Opposition has been targeting the BJP-led Central government for allegedly legalising the flow of black money in the country through electoral bonds. The SC asked the SBI to pass on poll bonds data to the Election Commission, which in turn made the data public. The BJP has emerged as the highest beneficiary of the electoral bonds, having cornered over Rs 6,000 crore, or about 47 per cent of the total money declared. The Congress, the main opposition party, got around 11 per cent of the funds.
