BCCI not recognised as NSF: Sports Minister Mandaviya in Lok Sabha

The BCCI is not a recognised National Sports Federation (NSF), Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated in the Lok Sabha on Monday, reiterating a long-held status that is expected to change once the new National Sports Governance Act comes into effect next year. Mandaviya was responding to a query from Trinamool Congress' Kolkata Dakshin representative Mala Roy.

Govt taking high airfares seriously, strengthening DGCA tariff monitoring unit: Aviation minister

The government is taking the high airfares issue seriously and wants to prevent opportunistic pricing situation and is strengthening the tariff monitoring unit of DGCA, Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, the minister said the government is taking the issue seriously, while noting that the surge in airfares is generally because it is a deregulated sector. He said in air travel, many stakeholders are involved including CISF.

Bill to set up higher education commission introduced in LS

The Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill that seeks to set up an overarching higher education commission along with three councils was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday with the government expressing willingness to refer it to a joint committee.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan introduced the Bill amid din over the issue of alleged threatening slogans raised at a Congress rally on Sunday against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bill in LS to open up nuclear sector to private players, overhaul liability regime

A new bill seeks to overhaul laws governing India's civil nuclear sector, opening it up to private participation and putting in place a new liability regime, in a bid to address concerns voiced by the industry partners. The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, 2025, seen as a comprehensive legislation to harness India's full nuclear power potential, seeks to repeal the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010. "The Bill seeks to provide for a pragmatic civil liability regime for nuclear damage and to confer statutory status to the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board," Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh said.

Bills for nuclear sector for private players, education overhaul introduced in LS

The government introduced three new bills in the Lok Sabha on Monday, including one to open up the tightly controlled civil nuclear sector to private players. The Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, also introduced on Monday, seeks to facilitate universities and other higher educational institutions to become independent and self-governing, with a robust and transparent system of accreditation and autonomy. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan introduced the bill.
