Russian filmmaker Pasha Talankin, the co-director of Academy Award-winning documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin", has lost his Oscar statuette after security officials at New York airport refused to let him board a flight with it. Talankin, who was also the protagonist of "Mr. Nobody Against Putin", which won the Best Feature Documentary at this year's Academy Awards, said at a security checkpoint at JFK Airport on Wednesday, an official stopped him from carrying on board the statuette, which weighs approximately 3.8 kg. He added that he had flown more than a dozen times with the Oscar since winning it in March without any incident. "It's completely baffling how they consider an Oscar a weapon... (I) flew with it in the cabin, and there never was any kind of problem," Talankin told the outlet from Frankfurt, Germany, where he arrived Thursday morning on a Lufthansa flight. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday announced that the Pakyong Airport, the lone such facility in the Himalayan state, will be renamed after freedom fighter Trilochan Pokhrel. Trilochan Pokhrel, popularly known as "Gandhi Pokhrel" and considered the first independence activist from Sikkim, was actively involved in the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement, spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi. Tamang made the announcement while addressing the 31st Foundation Day celebration of the 'Akhil Sikkim Khas Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh', a tribal organisation at Rangpo ground close to the West Bengal border. "The Pakyong Airport will be renamed Trilochan Pokhrel Airport in honour of the freedom activist who belonged to the Khas, Chettri, Bahun community," the chief minister said. Airlines faced issues in checking in passengers at various airports on Thursday morning due to a software problem that lasted for more than 40 minutes, according to sources. The sources told PTI that IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air were impacted at Delhi, Mumbai and other airports. The check-in systems were down from around 6.45 am till 7.28 am due to the software outage. The problem was addressed and working of the system have returned to normal, one of the sources said. The sources also said there was not too much disruptions for airlines on account of the software problem. There were no statements from airlines.
Changi Airport Group's Chairman Lim Ming Yan on Saturday said the group is closely monitoring opportunities for airport projects in India and emphasised the need for having local partners for a win-win situation. India was among the top five passenger traffic and cargo volume generating markets for Singapore's Changi Airport which added Vijayawada among new destinations for airlines to fly to last year, the airport operator said on Thursday. Changi Airport, from which about 100 airlines operate, recorded an all-time high of 69.98 million passenger movements in 2025, an improvement of 3.4 per cent compared to 2024's passenger traffic, the Changi Airport Group (CAG) said. The airport's top five passenger markets for 2025 were China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and India, it added. Changi Airport added 13 city links to its global footprint in 2025 - a record year for network growth, CAG said. The Customs department at the Kempegowda International Airport on Friday issued a high alert for the public after detecting a fraud racket in which impostors posing as Customs officials are cheating people and extorting money from them. According to the Customs, fraudsters are targeting innocent citizens, particularly those from the economically weaker sections, by exploiting their fear and urgency through phone calls, social media and messaging platforms. The scammers falsely claim that a passenger arriving from abroad has been detained by Customs and demand immediate payment to resolve the issue. Warning the public against falling prey to such tactics, the Customs commissioner said, Customs officials never contact people via phone, WhatsApp, or social media to demand payments of fines or penalties. Airports in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal and Khajuraho have received top scores in the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) pan-India customer satisfaction survey, an official said on Friday. The survey report is based on the feedback collected from 58 out of 62 airports across the country, the official said. In the first round of the survey, conducted between January and June, airports at Bhopal, Khajuraho and Udaipur in Rajasthan topped the chart by securing a perfect score in terms of customer satisfaction. Round 2 of the survey was conducted between June and December, during which airports in Bhopal, Khajuraho and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in neighbouring Maharashtra scored 4.99 points out of 5. Four airports Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Bhavnagar (Gujarat), Tezpur (Assam) and Kalaburgi (Karnataka) were not included in the survey due to the non-availability of flights. The central government has revived and turned many pre-independence airstrips into operational airports which are being used by the airlines under the Udan scheme, Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu also said that the scheme, which aims to democratise aviation by making flying accessible and affordable for all, has already been extended by 10 more years. "There were 74 operational airports in 2014 which has now been increased to over 160. The government has revived and turned many pre-independence airstrips into operational airports in which airlines are flying planes under the Udan scheme," he said during Question Hour. Replying to a supplementary question, the minister said for construction of a greenfield airport, land has to be provided by the state government. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Uttarakhand government on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the acquisition of Naini Saini Airport in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to officials, the "historic" agreement is a step towards providing smooth, safe, and sustainable air connectivity to the mountainous region of Uttarakhand. Located in Pithoragarh district, Naini Saini Airport spans approximately 70 acres and has a terminal building capable of handling 40 passengers during peak hours. The airport apron can also accommodate two aircraft at a time. With the acquisition, AAI will undertake the upgradation of the airport's infrastructure and streamlining of operational standards, which will lead to significant improvement in the regional connectivity of the state, officials said. Asserting that Paradip in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district would soon emerge as the gate way to eastern India, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Tuesday said the port town will have a greenfield airport, a cruise terminal and also become a hub of green hydrogen. Majhi said this while inaugurating the Kalinga Bali Jatra at Paradip, marking ancient Odisha's maritime tradition which is a symbol of courage of Odia sailors and traders. A cargo aircraft skidded off a Hong Kong runway into the sea when landing early Monday, killing two people. The flight, arriving from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was landing at Hong Kong International Airport around 3.50 am, according to Hong Kong's airport authority. Four crew members on the plane were rescued and taken to hospital. Initial reports from police said two people in an airport ground vehicle were dead. The north runway of Hong Kong's airport, one of Asia's busiest, where the aircraft skidded off runway, has been closed, authorities said. Two other runways at the airport continue to operate. The Boeing 747 freighter is a Turkish air cargo carrier AirACT aircraft flying for Emirates SkyCargo, with the flight number EK9788. It was flying from Al Maktoum International Airport.
