Lamine Yamal missed a penalty as Barcelona lost at Girona 2-1 on Monday and passed up a chance to overtake Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. The defeat was the second in less than a week for Barca and left it second in the table, two points behind Madrid. A win would have taken it above its archrival but, instead, a crisis brewed for coach Hansi Flick, whose side lost to Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Copa del Rey last week. The second loss came even though Barcelona took the lead early in the second half. Yamal hit the post with his spot kick on the stroke of halftime but 14 minutes into the second period Pau Cubarsi met Jules Kounde's cross from the right and placed his header perfectly into the top corner. The goal was Barcelona's 100th in all competitions this season and made it the second club in Europe's big five domestic leagues to hit the century after Bayern Munich. However, Girona roared back into the game just three minutes later. Barcelona's Joan Garcia was already the

Raphinha will remain on Barcelona's injured list and left-back Jules Kound is doubtful for Sunday's clasico match, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is ready to play for Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold was included Saturday on Xabi Alonso's squad list for the first time since the former Liverpool star hurt his left hamstring in mid-September. That leaves only Antonio Rudiger on Madrid's injured list. Barcelona was already without Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo and first-choice goalkeeper Joan Garca due to injuries for the big match. Of course I'd love to have everyone available, the coach and the team would too, (but) those of us who are fit will give everything and fight for the three points, Barcelona midfielder Pedri Gonzlez said. Barcelona had hoped to have Raphinha ready Raphinha has been sidelined for a month after injuring his right leg in late September. UEFA will reluctantly not oppose the tradition-busting plans for Barcelona to play a league game in Miami and for AC Milan to feature in Australia, the European soccer body said. Amid fierce opposition from fan groups across the continent, UEFA consent was a key step for La Liga's plan to stage Villarreal vs. Barcelona in Miami Gardens, Florida on Dec. 20 and Serie A's AC Milan vs Como in Perth in February. UEFA on Monday blamed a lack of clear rules from world soccer body FIFA to block the proposed games, which many fans see as a threat to cut teams' ties to their home communities. While it is regrettable to have to let these two games go ahead, this decision is exceptional and shall not be seen as setting a precedent, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement. UEFA said it will actively contribute to the ongoing work led by FIFA to ensure that future rules uphold the integrity of domestic competitions and the close bond between clubs, their supporters and local ...

Barcelona trailed after Garca gave the ball away when he left the area and Alberto Reina scored for the hosts with a shot from near the midfield circle. The Catalan club rallied in the second half with goals by Eric Garca, Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo to secure its fifth win in six league matches. The result left Barcelona two points behind leader Real Madrid, which won 4-1 at promoted Levante on Tuesday to maintain a perfect record after six rounds. In the first half we struggled with the scoring opportunities but in the second we picked up the pace and got the three goals and the victory that is very important for us, Lewandowski said. Joan Garca's mistake came as he ventured outside the area to intercept a long pass in the 33rd minute. He used his right thigh to get the ball over one opponent and then his left foot to clear another Oviedo playe
