Former Barcelona forward Carles Perez missed a game with Greek club Aris because of a dog bite that required stitches. The 27-year-old Perez is on loan at Aris, which hosted Azerbaijani club Araz-Naxivan in a qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday. Two days earlier, Perez was out for a walk with his dog when there was an incident with a second dog. "I had the misfortune of suffering a bite on the inside of my leg while trying to separate my dog from another dog during a minor and unexpected incident," Perez, on loan from Celta Vigo, wrote on Instagram. "The wound required stitches, which, although not serious, prevents me from being in optimal condition to compete tonight." Perez wrote that he was very sorry he can't be on the field. He added that he was recovering at home" and expected to be back with the team in a couple of days. Thursday's game ended in a 2-2 draw. Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andr ter Stegen underwent successful back surgery on Tuesday, the club said. Barcelona did not say how long Ter Stegen will be sidelined, but the player had said the recovery time would be about three months. Ter Stegen needed the operation to address persistent lower back problems. The 33-year-old German missed nearly all of last season because of a tendon rupture in his knee, and in 2023 he missed about two months because of another back operation. Barcelona added Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garca to its squad last month. Iaki Pea was the team's reserve goalkeeper last season.
Spanish soccer club Barcelona is paying tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant with its second uniform launched Tuesday. The five-time European champion said its new jersey will replace the usual Nike swoosh logo with the Kobe Sheath' the sword in the sheath logo that identifies the Kobe Bryant brand. Barcelona said the club had a special relationship with Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in Southern California in 2020. He made appearances alongside club members and first-team players during his visits to Barcelona and when the club visited the United States. The shorts are black with Persian violet details and a textured snakeskin outline, a reference to the Black Mamba alter ego of Kobe, Barcelona said. The change, made in collaboration with Nike, will last three seasons. All in all, it is part of a brand collaboration between the NBA legend and FC Barcelona that is born out of a shared culture of sporting excellence that characterized Bryant and is also part of FC Barcelona's
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andr ter Stegen will undergo more back surgery and be out of action for about three months. Barcelona said Thursday that Ter Stegen will have the surgery next week to address lower back problems. Today is a personally difficult day for me, the goalkeeper said. Physically and athletically, I feel in very good shape, although unfortunately I am not free from pain. After intensive discussions with the FC Barcelona medical team and external experts, the quickest and safest way for me to fully recover is through back surgery. The 33-year-old Ter Stegen missed nearly all of last season because of a tendon rupture in his knee, and in 2023 he missed about two months because of another back operation. This time, the doctors believe that about three months will be necessary as a precaution, to avoid any risks, Ter Stegen said. Emotionally, it hurts a lot not being able to support the team during this time. Fortunately, the rehabilitation is manageable and the road b
Barcelona's already impressive front line is about to be boosted by the signing of Marcus Rashford. Rashford is in Barcelona to complete a move from Manchester United, a person with knowledge of the transfer told The Associated Press on Monday. The person did not want to be named because they were not authorized to speak about it publicly. The loan deal would give the 27-year-old England forward, once considered among Europe's top talents, a chance to revive a career that stalled in recent years after falling out of favor at United and ending last season on loan at Aston Villa. Spanish media said the one-year loan agreement with United would give Barcelona an option to buy Rashford for about 30 million euros ($35 million). Barcelona had the best attack in Spanish soccer and one of the most prolific across Europe last season, but had been trying to add another piece to the frontline to go along with young star Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and veteran Robert Lewandowski. With Yamal turning 18 soon, he is reportedly set to inherit the legendary number 10 shirt, a sign of the immense trust and belief the club has in him for the years to come.
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been criticized and could face an investigation for reportedly hiring people with dwarfism as entertainers during his lavish 18th birthday party this weekend. Spain's Ministry of Social Rights has asked prosecutors to open a probe into the hiring and exposition of the entertainers. Ministry director Jess Martn Blanco told Europa Press that such hirings "take us back to the Middle Ages." A local association for people with disabilities had already condemned the alleged hirings, saying it would take action legally and socially against those responsible for promoting such actions. Spanish radio station RAC1 published an interview with one of the entertainers who said he was in the party. The man said they were all treated with respect. He complained about the reaction against Yamal for hiring them. Yamal celebrated his birthday with a party filled with celebrities. It also included some of his Barcelona teammates.
While Messi's early career was more goal-heavy, Yamal boasts a more balanced contribution between scoring and creating, highlighting his versatility and team-first mindset.
Monaco signed Ansu Fati on a season-long loan from Barcelona on Tuesday, offering the former teen prodigy another chance to resurrect his career. Monaco said the loan deal for the 22-year-old forward includes an option to buy at the end of the season. Fati burst onto the scene with Barcelona in 2019-20 season. At the age of 16 years and 304 days in August 2019, he became the club's youngest scorer in the Spanish league. Nearly four months later, at the age of 17 years and 40 days, he became the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history. Fati would set other records he previously held the record as Spain's youngest ever scorer with his reputation growing as a quick and tricky right winger with an eye for goal. He was predicted to become a world superstar in much the same way as 17-year-old Lamine Yamal is now with Barcelona and Spain. Like Yamal, he also had great versatility, offering him the possibility to operate as a second striker or by dropping deep in the false nine .
