Ahead of his second Commonwealth Games appearance, Indian javelin throw ace Neeraj Chopra is sweating it out at his training base in Switzerland and is likely to head directly to Glasgow for the multi-sporting event starting on July 23. Chopra had won a gold in the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast but missed the 2022 edition in Birmingham due to an injury. He will be competing for his second major event of the year in Glasgow after the fourth place finish in Doha Diamond League in June with a throw of 85.69m. The men's javelin throw qualifying round of the Glasgow CWG will be held on July 30, with the final slated for the next day. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had left it to Chopra whether to compete at any event before the CWG and it is more or less certain that he will head directly to Glasgow from his current training base in Bienne (Biel). Two-time Olympic medal-winning Indian javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra has begun his pre-season training in his preferred South African base of Potchefstroom after the Sports Ministry's Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved a 32-day camp for him under new coach Jai Chaudhary. Chopra parted ways with Czech legend Jan Zelezny as his coach last week, deciding to partner with Chaudhary, who was his formative coach and trains javelin throwers in Panipat, which is the superstar's home town. The 28-year-old will stay in Potchefstroom, a major training base for javelin throwers from across the world, till February 5 and the total sanctioned assistance for him stands at Rs 11.80 lakh, a source in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) told PTI.
