Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan's tenure has been extended up to May next year, the government said on Wednesday. Gen Chauhan's current stint as the top military officer is scheduled to end on September 30. The defence ministry said the government has approved the extension of service of Gen Chauhan as Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, up to May 30 next year or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has been serving as the Chief of Defence Staff since September 30, 2022.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued stern directions for effective 'Jan Sunwai' (public hearing) camps at the district revenue offices, warning disciplinary action against officers skipping the weekly hearings, an official statement said on Tuesday. The chief minister said that addressing problems faced by people of Delhi is the top priority of her government. The Jan Sunwai camps will be made more effective so that they become a channel of direct communication between the government and the people instead of being treated as a mere formality, she said, according to a statement from the chief minister's office (CMO). Officers must understand that their presence is part of their accountability to the public, and it cannot be ignored under any circumstances. Indian Air Force veteran Gp Capt D K Parulkar (retd), who led a daring escape from captivity in Pakistan during the 1971 war, has passed away, the IAF said on Sunday. He died near Pune, Maharashtra, according to a senior official. "Gp Capt DK Parulkar (Retd) VM, VSM 1971 War hero, who led a daring escape from captivity in Pakistan, embodying unmatched courage, ingenuity & pride in the IAF has left for his heavenly abode. All Air Warriors of the IAF express their heartfelt condolences," the IAF posted on X. It also shared an old excerpt from a gallantry award citation on him. Parulkar was commissioned in the IAF in March 1963. In past, he held various appointments, including as a Flying Instructor at the Air Force Academy, according to the excerpt. The Karnataka chief electoral officer on Sunday issued a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asking him to share documents based on which he had alleged that a woman voted twice. Soon after the notice was issued to the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the Election Commission once again asked him to either sign a declaration to substantiate his allegations of vote theft in Karnataka, Haryana and Maharashtra or apologise to the nation for making "absurd" allegations. Karnataka's top poll officer told Gandhi that the documents will help his office carry out a detailed inquiry. Gandhi had shown the documents at a press conference in the national capital last week. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed officials to resolve public problems sensitively and promptly, assuring that his government's priority remains to serve the people of the state in a transparent matter. The Railway Board has approved fresh guidelines for the posting of divisional railway managers for its 68 rail divisions, according to which officers being considered for short-listing as DRMs should be less than 52 years of age among other eligibility criteria. The guidelines, released on September 3, 2024, have introduced some new eligibility criteria, including that the officers should have minimum 15 years in Railways/Railway PSUs. However, it does not offer any age relaxation which has disappointed a section of senior railway officials and experts. "Officers being considered for short-listing as DRMs should be less than 52 years of age as on 1st January of the vacancy year for which the short list is being made," the guideline said, merely reiterating the previous position. A Parliamentary panel has asked the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation to recruit more field officers in the National Sample Survey Organisation on mission mode for more accurate and reliable data collection. Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance in its 58th Report on Demand for Grants (2023-24) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation expressed concern over the shortage of manpower in the ministry, especially in the senior and junior statistical cadre. The report was tabled in Parliament on Thursday. The panel noted that on November 30, 2022, 266 vacancies exist, which is 33 per cent of the total sanctioned strength. The panel recommended the ministry to pursue the matter of recruitment with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) vigorously so that the vacancies can be filled within this financial year. In a first, the CRPF has appointed two women officers from its cadre as Inspectors General (IG) of its specialised anti-riots unit RAF and the Bihar Sector. The proverbial glass ceiling in the country's largest paramilitary force with 3.25 lakh personnel has broken after a long wait of 35 years as the first women officers joined the Central Reserve Police Force in 1987. There have been women Indian Police Service (IPS) officers heading CRPF formations and at present there are at least three such officers in the force. Officials said as part of a recent transfer/posting order issued by the force headquarters here, Annie Abraham has been appointed as the IG of the blue duangree donning Rapid Action Force (RAF) while Seema Dhundia has been posted as the IG of the Bihar Sector. This is the first time that the RAF will be headed by a woman IG. An IG Is the head of the sector in the CRPF. Both officers joined the paramilitary force in 1987 as the first batch of women officers. They have
