The 17th edition of 'Poultry India Expo' will be held from November 25-28 in Hyderabad, Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers' Association (IPEMA) announced on Monday. Considered South Asia's biggest event in the sector, the four-day expo is expecting participation from more than 500 exhibitors from around 50 countries at HITEX Exhibition Centre. The expo will showcase breakthroughs in breeding, hatchery automation, feed milling, housing, veterinary products and egg-farming solutions. It will also highlight solutions for challenges such as raw material volatility, sustainability and disease management, with participation from global brands, innovators and startups. A technical seminar during the event will focus on emerging diseases, sustainable feed, manure management, automation and poultry career development. A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in a poultry farm in Odisha's Puri district, prompting the state government to launch emergency containment measures, including mass culling of over 6,700 birds, a senior official said on Sunday. The state government resorted to mass culling of the birds after the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, confirmed that samples collected from Bada Ankula village in Delanga block of the district tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza virus, he added. Over 6,700 birds were culled on Saturday and Sunday following standard operating procedure (SOP) lay down by the Centre, he said. Sarat Kumar Behera, chief district veterinary officer (CDVO), Puri, informed that five rapid response teams (RRTs) along with health teams have been deployed in the area where bird flu cases were detected. The Odisha government has culled over 11,700 chickens in Puri district's Pipili, following the detection of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza, an official said on Monday. After mass deaths of chickens at a local poultry farm in Pipili, culling began on Saturday and was completed on Monday evening. Additional culling in homes and nearby villages will take place on Tuesday, the official added. Jagannath Nanda, additional director of disease control, said 13 rapid response teams are handling the culling, with some poultry farm owners conducting culling independently. The poultry sector is likely to witness a 10 per cent revenue growth in this financial year due to a sustained increase in demand amid moderating realisations, a report said on Tuesday. Along with revenue, Crisil Ratings in a report said that operating profitability is also likely to bounce back 70 basis points (bps) this fiscal as input feed costs declined on softer soy and maize prices. This will help strengthen credit profiles despite additional debt set to be contracted for the capacity increase over the medium term, it added.
