India remains largely on track to achieve its 100 GW wind energy target by 2030, provided the country accelerates power grid expansion and maintains a steady pipeline of project auctions, Suzlon Group co-founder Girish Tanti said on Wednesday. The statement assumes significance in view of India's ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy (including 100 GW of wind) by 2030. Talking to PTI at WindEnergy 2026 in Hamburg, Tanti said the biggest dampener for renewable energy development in the country is grid readiness. He is of the view that the electricity transmission grid build-up (development) time is about five years, which is commensurate with traditional (thermal or hydro projects). It takes roughly five to six years to set up thermal or hydro power projects. Thus, in India, grid development takes place accordingly. The grid development or build-up time needs to be reduced to 12 to 18 months to match renewable energy capacity addition in the country. A solar or wind projec
India is on track to achieve 7.5-8 GW wind energy capacity addition in the current fiscal year, a senior official said on Tuesday. Addressing the EU-India Wind Energy Business Summit 2026 at WindEnergy Hamburg, Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, said that India has added over 6 GW of wind energy capacity in 2025-26. He exuded confidence that India is on track to achieve 7.5 to 8 GW of wind energy capacity in 2026-27. India aims to have over 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030. It has installed wind generation capacity of 58.52 GW as of August 31, 2026. India has added 2.42 GW of wind energy capacity till August 31 in the current fiscal year (April to August). The wind energy capacity addition is important as India has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy. Kulhari also assured full cooperation to the EU in the renewable energy sector.
ACME Solar Holdings on Thursday said it has commissioned an additional 16 MW of its 100 MW wind power project, located in Surendaranagar, Gujarat. This follows the first phase commissioning of 28 MW in October, 2025, a company statement said. The current commissioning takes the project's operational capacity to 44 MW out of the 100 MW to be commissioned in phases. It has enhanced ACME Solar's total operational capacity to 2,934 MW. Recently, the project was granted an extension to its Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD) by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC). The revised SCOD date is March 5, 2026 and the project has been early commissioned with part capacity of 44 MW in first two phases. This wind power project has been financed through Power Finance Corporation (PFC). The power generated from the project will be sold through the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between ACME Eco Clean and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. The commissioning was .
Inox Wind on Wednesday said it has entered into an agreement with KP Energy for jointly developing 2.5 GW of wind-solar hybrid projects in multiple states across the country. Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KP Energy, Inox Wind Limited (IWL) along with its subsidiaries will supply wind turbine generators and associated equipment, provide engineering support including USS design, transformer specifications, and foundation design, and will execute pre-commissioning, commissioning and O&M of wind turbine generators, Inox Wind said in a statement. KP Energy will undertake project development activities such as securing connectivity, land and right-of-way, obtaining statutory approvals, and executing balance of plant and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) works, the statement said. "The synergies between Inox Wind's manufacturing excellence, engineering depth and product reliability, and KPE's extensive on-ground development experience enables both ...
India's wind energy capacity is estimated to reach 107 GW by 2030, compared to the government target of 100 GW, according to a report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) released on Tuesday. The latest report, Wind at the Core: Driving India's Green Ambitions and International Influence, was unveiled in the presence of New & Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi. The report details how installed wind capacity in India can more than double from 51 GW at present to 107 GW by 2030, in line with state-level Resource Adequacy Plans (RAP). This is pivotal to help India achieve the least cost pathway for a successful energy transition. Further, reports from organisations like NREL, IEA, WRI, and Lawrence Berkeley recommend even higher wind capacity (121-164 GW) by 2030. Addressing grid concerns, strengthening RPO compliance, and aligning bidding processes with state offtake needs could push installations toward the full potential, the report stated. On the occasion, ...
India's wind energy sectors is investing in capacity, technology innovation, and workforce development to help the country reach 100 GW of production by 2030, industry body IWTMA has said. At present, the country has an installed wind energy capacity of over 50 GW, as per the latest report of March 2025 of Central Electricity Authority. "The Indian wind industry is fully aligned with the government's clean energy vision. We are investing in capacity, technology innovation, and workforce development to achieve 100 GW of wind energy by 2030," said Aditya Pyasi, CEO, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). At a high-level meeting with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently, IWTMA outlined the industry's readiness to scale up manufacturing, generate employment, and advance the 'Make in India' mission, the industry body said in a statement. India currently has over 18 GW of annual domestic manufacturing capacity for wind turbines and components, it ...
Datta Power Infra on Thursday announced signing a power purchase agreement with state-owned SJVN to set up a 70 MW wind energy project. SJVN's WIND-1 initiative aims to develop 600 MW of ISTS-connected (Inter-State Transmission System) wind power projects across India, the company said in a statement. Varchasvi Gagal, Managing Director & CEO of Datta Power Infra, said: "We collaborate with SJVN Limited on this landmark 70-MW wind power project, which is a significant step toward strengthening India's renewable energy ecosystem".
