Kabali rakes in Rs 220 cr before release

The movie will be released around 10,000 screens across the world, the producers said.

Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali has raked in around Rs 220 crore through sale of distribution rights and tickets. Tickets were sold out within hours, with corporates joining the queue for bulk booking, according to sources. The movie would be released on Friday.

Industry sources said the movie had already raked in Rs 220 crore through sale of distribution rights across the world and also through sale of satellite and music rights. However, official sources were not available for confirmation.

The movie will be released around 10,000 screens across the world, the producers said. In North India alone, it will be released on 1,000 screens. It is getting released in India, US, Canada and Malaysia this week. Other language versions would be released later. 
 

Several companies have started joining the queue for tickets. In Chennai, Freshdesk is in talks with a major multiplex to book 700 tickets for a show on Saturday. Another Chennai-based IT firm is planning to distribute around 100 tickets to employees. Sources said a distributor in Karnataka was organising special screenings in hotels and the tickets were being sold at Rs 1,300.
