Hit by the slowdown in the global aviation industry, Air India is toying with the idea of cancelling six Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft, the delivery of which was to begin in 2010-11.

"Air India is in dialogue with Boeing for cancellation of six B-777 aircraft deliveries in 2010-11 and 2011-12 in view of the current global aviation scenario," an Air India spokesperson told PTI here today.

The process of dialogue will continue, he said.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director Arvind Jadhav and Boeing India President Dinesh Keskar held a meeting today at the Air India building to discuss the issue.

These six aircraft are part of Air India's Rs 44,000 crore order for buying 68 aircraft from Boeing to augment its fleet.

The new aircraft deliveries also include 23 787 Dreamliners, the delivery of which is yet to begin because of delay in the production of these aircraft by Boeing.
