Gillette India posts net profit of Rs 117 crore

BS Reporter New Delhi

Gillette India (GIL) has posted a net profit of Rs 117 crores in the period between July 2007–June 2008.

In a submission to the National Stock Exchange today, the company declared its audited results for the 12 month period and added that the net profit for the period under consideration and the corresponding months between July 2006 to June 2007 cannot be compared. This is because the profit after tax for the July 2006–June 2007 period takes in to account some extraordinary income arising out of activities which were not under the company’s normal operations.

In the period under consideration, the company recorded a net sales worth Rs 589 crores, which is a growth of 16.6 per cent over Rs. 505 crores recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.

“Gillette India continues its growth momentum to enhance shareholder value. During the year, all Gillette business grew share and recorded new highs in the last quarter of the year. This is a result of sustained focus on franchise building and upgrading consumers to higher value and better quality products via the right brand endorsement strategies and higher consumer trials across the country.

Men’s Grooming products continue to be the core business for the Company and it is rewarding to see Gillette Mach 3 grow by 10 per cent during this year,” said Shantanu Khosla, Managing Director, GIL in a release today.
