An IndiGo Airbus A320 plane on the Dibrugarh-Kolkata route was involved in a near-collision incident with another unidentified aircraft on Saturday afternoon. IndiGo’s pilot took evasive action and descended a few thousand feet after receiving an alert from the aircraft’s on board traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS).
“IndiGo flight 6E-206 en route from Dibrugarh to Kolkata had a resolution advisory triggered by TCAS. The incident was reported to Tezpur ATC and thereafter normal flight resumed. At IndiGo safety is our highest priority and at no time was the safety of passengers compromised,” the airline said in a statement.
Passenger aircraft are required to keep a vertical separation of 1,000 feet and 5-10 miles of lateral separation in a radar controlled airspace. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is probing the incident.
