Industrial production dips to 7.1% y-o-y

Industrial growth in July 2008 stood at 7.1 per cent compared with a 8.3 per cent growth in July 2007. Growth was down year on year as electricity generation feel to 4.5 per cent compared with 7.5 per cent growth in July 2007.

Growth in the manufacturing sector slowed to 7.5 per cent in July compared with 8.8 per cent growth in July lasy year.

Industrial growth in July was however higher than the 5.4 per cent recorded in June 2008.

Capital goods sector showed growth of 21.9 per cent in July compared with a year ago. Consumer goods and durables sector also logged impressive growth.

 

Industrial growth in the April-July 2008 period was at 5.7 per cent compared with the same period of the previous year.
