Paradeep Port Trust (PPT) has handled 5.74 million tonne (mt) of cargo during May this year, 41.96 per cent higher than 4.04 mt achieved in the same month of last fiscal.
This total cargo handled includes 1.97 mt of export cargo and the balance 3.77 mt imported cargo.
In the April-May period of 2013-14, PPT handled 11.55 mt of cargo, an increase of 42.41 per cent over 8.11 mt cargo recorded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. PPT has acquired the second slot among all major ports in terms of total cargo handled and also traffic growth achieved during the period.

In this period, coking coal traffic grew 23.87 per cent and thermal coal rose 47.33 per cent while iron ore traffic zoomed 329.24 per cent.
A record quantity of 40,613 tonnes of pyroxenite was imported during May 2013.
