The belligerence between Reliance Jio and the incumbents in the sector has grown more acute with the Cellular Operators Association of India writing to the Prime Minister’s office claiming that the new entrant was using a beta test to lure away users and generate data.
Last Friday, RIL sent an email to its employees asking them to submit details required for a new connection with Jio, post which they will initiate the Mobile Number Portability process with the existing operator. This is likely to take seven working days to complete. The last day for submission of details was set at August 22, according to the letter sent to employees.
CLARIFICATION:
An earlier version of this article mentioned that RIL had asked its employees to give up only their Airtel mobile connections. In fact, RIL has asked its employees to port their existing corporate connections to R-Jio, irrespective of their service provider. The error is regretted.
