Smart City Kochi has received environmental clearance for the first phase from the state-level environment impact assessment authority (EIAA). AE Muthunaygam, chairman of EIAA, said the authority on the recommendation of the state-level expert appraisal committee (EAC) had decided to grant the clearance for the proposal.
As the decks have been cleared, the company is set to begin the construction work on the first site. It has also applied for building permit, which is expected in two weeks.
"We're all prepared for the construction activities to begin in full swing as the decision on environmental clearance is known by now," said Abdullatif Almulla, CEO of SmartCity Dubai and chief business development officer at Dubai Holding.
Baju George, managing director of SmartCity, said the site clearance, demolitions, soil excavation, relocation of trees and setting out the building would begin in a few days.
