Norwegian telecom firm Telenor owned Telewings Communications, which operates Uninor brand in India, on Wednesday, reported more than 40% rise in revenue at NOK 1.02 billion (around Rs 991.8 crore) in April-June quarter as compared with NOK 728 million reported in the same quarter previous year. The company, however, claimed a 46% growth in revenues in a statement. Its revenue rose about 11.1% as against the January-March quarter 2014.
Uninor reported a loss of NOK 170 million for the April-June quarter, as compared to NOK 1.53 billion profit in the previous quarter. The profit in January-March quarter was because of a license fee offset of Rs 1,658 crore (about NOK 1.7 billion) against the pending instalments for the spectrum acquired in auction held in November 2013. Without the adjustments, the operating loss could have been at around NOK 169 million.
The positive operational trend is backed by strong subscriber addition, improved usage and increased consumer market share, the company said in a statement. Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose by 11% to Rs 108, while its subscriber base increased by about 33%.
According to the company, active internet user base rose about 32% during the first two quarters. However, the company did not disclose how many data users it has.
"In two of the three months of this quarter for which reports have been published, Uninor has added more subscribers in its six circles than any other mobile operator on any platform. This shows the success of our mass market strategy. Sabse Sasta voice and sabse sasta internet for all will be positions that Uninor will keep and defend through this year," said Morten Karlsen Sorby, CEO, Uninor.
