Videocon aims for 10 cr mobile users; to invest Rs 15K cr

Diversified business conglomerate Videocon today said its mobile services arm has set a target of achieving 10 crore customers in three years and would invest Rs 15,000 crore in the sector.
Videocon Chairman V N Dhoot, while launching services of Videocon Mobile Services (VMS) in Gujarat, said telecom is one of the areas of focus for the group and it will invest Rs 15,000 crore to develop necessary infrastructure in the country.
"The tremendous value that we will deliver to our users every month will enable us to achieve our target of 100 million users across India within three years," Dhoot told reporters here.
"Today, Videocon is starting its services in Gujarat, where the company has earmarked an investment of Rs 1,000 crore for its GSM venture," he said.
Dhoot also said in the months ahead the company aims to cover the entire urban and half the rural population.

"In coming months, we will target to cover 100 per cent of the urban population and 50 per cent of rural population in the state. Our services will be offered from around 20,000 retail outlets at the beginning and plan to cover 45,000 outlets in next two months," he said, elaborating on the company's plans for its GSM venture.
Talking about 3G services, he said it would bring a revolution in the telecommunications sector. Videocon has applied for 3G services and has aggressive plans for the same, he added.
According to Dhoot, what will differentiate Videocon Mobile from other service providers is its innovative tariff plans and value added services (VAS), which will be rolled out very shortly.
Dhoot added that Videocon has also integrated the expertise of global telecom industry leaders to create infrastructure and the company has partnered Nokia, Siemens, Cisco, IBM, Wipro, Hauwei and others for technology.
