Peeved over paltry allocation to Odisha under the Backward Region Grant Fund, the members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan.Later, the BJD workers, who sat on a five hour long dharna, submitted to the Governor, SC Jamir, a memorandum addressed to the President.
BJD will hold awareness campaigns on the issue at all districts from April 23-25, during which it will sensitize the people about the Centre's apathy towards the state. A 12-hour state-wide bandh is also called on April 26", said Sanjay Dash Verma, deputy chief whip of the party.
The Centre has turned a blind eye to granting special category status to the state, he added.The ruling party will also send a memorandum to President, Pranab Mukherjee with signature of one crore people.The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has recently approved an annual allocation of Rs 250 crore for the KBK Region (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) for the 12th five year plan period.
