After initiating a probe into an iron-ore mine in the Saranda forest of Jharkhand, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started another Preliminary Enquiry (PE) into a mine owned by Sajjan Jindal-promoted JSW Steel for alleged irregularities in environment clearance to acquire land in the Ankua Reserve Forest in the state.

"The CBI has registered a PE against unknown officials of JSW Steel and unknown officials of the environment and forests ministry. The approval was granted in 2013," a spokesperson said.

"We are not aware of any such move nor have we received any official communication," said a JSW Steel spokesperson.
