Country likely to have tainted Prez, says Kejriwal

BS Reporter  |  Mumbai/ Ahmedabad

Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Friday regretted that a person like Pranab Mukherjee with serious corruption charges was likely to become next President of the country.

"I think it is sad that a person against whom not one but four serious charges of corruption are levelled is likely to be the next President of our country," Kejriwal who was in Ahmedabad said addressing a press conference. He was here to support an agitation against allotment of community grazing land in Lavad village of Gandhinagar District by the state government for the proposed Raksha Shakti University.

Kejriwal further alleged that there were also allegations against the Prime Minister. "We had submitted a list of corrupt Ministers in the Cabinet. 162 MPs from Lok Sabha and 39 from Rajya Sabha are corrupt, and now we will get a tainted President," he said.

Kejriwal also did not mince any word to criticise Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He said that by not appointing a Lokayukta Modi was protecting his corrupt minister against who strictures have been passed by the High Court.

He pointed towards out the recent controversy over the decision of the state government refusing to sanction filing of an FIR against Purushottam Solanki, Minister of State for fisheries in connection with an alleged case of corruption in granting fishing contracts by fisheries department.

"We are not saying that the minister is guilty or innocent, that the court will decide. But what is the harm in investigating the allegations and, in sanctioning prosecution against the minister, " Kejriwal said.
