Rainfall and thundershower are likely to occur in some parts of Odisha because of the formation of the cyclonic storm Helen over west central Bay of Bengal, about 530 km south-south-west of Gopalpur, where the very severe cyclonic storm Phailin had its land fall on October 12.

"The system would further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. It would move west-north-west wards for some time, then west-south-west ward and cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Sriharikota and Ongole, close to Kavali around night of November 21," read the latest bulletin from Bhubaneswar meteorological centre.

Rainfall or thunder shower may occur at one or two places over Odisha as the cyclone is likely to hit the Andhra coast, said a met department official.

The met department has predicted that north easterly surface wind speed of 30 to 40 km per hour (kmph) gusting to 50 kmph may prevail along and off south Odisha coast.

Fishermen in south Odisha are advised to be cautious while venturing into sea.

The local met office has asked to hoist Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) kept at Paradeep and Gopalpur ports.
