The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) organised a workshop in Bhubaneswar on new Companies Act to familiarise its members with the recently-enacted piece of legislation.
In the seminar, Anshuman Das, chairman cum managing director (CMD) of National Aluminium Company (Nalco) stressed upon the theme of corporate governance and said the role of a company secretary has become pivotal in a company as the new act mandates them to ensure proper governance and compliance of various laws. About 200 company secretaries participated in the day ling workshop.
A Murarka, past president of the ICSI said, the institute has been organizing series of seminars, workshops, symposia and study circles etc. through its regional councils and chapters to keep the professionals, investors, public, entrepreneurs update with the provisions of the new Companies Act.

A Acharya, Chairman of Bhubaneswar chapter of ICSI mentioned that the new act will facilitate long term growth of the corporate sector in an era of self-governance. He said, the workshop will be followed by Master Classes Programmes for the professionals to sensitize them on the requirements of the regulators.
During the day-long programmes eminent speakers from New Delhi and Kolkata addressed the technical sessions. J.B. Das, a practising CS and K.N. Ravindra, Company Secretary with Nalco chaired and addressed the technical sessions of the programme.
The workshop was attended by a large number of professionals along with directors, CFOs, company secretaries, chartered accountants, cost & management accountants and senior management executives of the state.
