Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi for his speech at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) annual general meeting (AGM), Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said while for the Congress leader India could be a beehive, for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) it was its motherland.

“Recently, I heard a Congress leader's speech and I was saddened to hear that India is a beehive. For you (Congress), it might be a beehive; for us (BJP), the country is our mother and its citizens our brothers and sisters. We can't stand our motherland's grief. Please don’t insult our motherland,” said Modi at the 33rd foundation day celebrations of BJP here in Ahmedabad.

In a show of strength, Modi hosted BJP's 33rd foundation day at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, attended by over 80,000 party workers from various parts of the country.

Stating that amid water scarcity in India, Congress leaders were unaware of the country's plight, Modi demanded the Sardar Sarovar dam's height be increased to ease the situation.

“For us (BJP), the country comes before the party. And, I have been stating that to achieve India’s progress, I work on Gujarat's progress,” said Modi.

Modi stated that unlike the Congress party, BJP was not born out of hunger for power, but to build the nation’s future.
