Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Google CEO Sundar Pichai were welcomed to the chants of ‘Modi’ at the Google headquarters in the Bay Area. Around 400 techies who took part in the Code for India Hackathon 2015 listened to both Pichai and the PM amid loud cheers.

PM and Pichai had an interactive session with hackathon participants in India and US via live simulcast.

The cheers in both Tech Mahindra office and Google HQ were the loudest the moment Modi started talking.  Greeting the crowd at Google HQ in Gujarati, the PM said that the Hackathon culture should be promoted in India so that more solutions for the common man are found.

“Our government will try and understand the apps and the solution being worked at this event and incorporate in our e-governance programme,” Modi said.

Talking about his Narendra Modi app, he said that the app lets him stay connected and helps him get instantaneous feedback from people.

Pichai said that Google would out with Android in 11 different Indian language options next month. “We will be launching android in 11 different languages including the Prime Minister’s mother tongue Gujrati,” he said. Pichai further that they are excited to bring connectivity to Indian railway stations.
