The monsoon which arrived here with a bang - a good fortnight before its scheduled time - seems to have disappeared with no rains for the past five days till Friday. The weatherman attributed this lull to a "weak phase" and said it will revive soon.

"It is the weak phase of monsoon but it does not mean that it will not revive. Moisture and wind, which come from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and cause rain, were not forming till now," said a senior official of the India Meteorological Department.

Officials said formation of moisture has begun and light showers are expected June 25.

"These phases are called intra-seasonal variation when there is less rain or more rain. This current pattern of monsoon is dry," added the official.

Monsoon arrived in Delhi Sunday, a fortnight ahead of scheduled June 29 date while parts of north India continued to receive heavy showers as the southwest monsoon advanced further into the central and north regions.
