Pawan Bansal resigns as Railway Minister

Pawan Kumar Bansal, under fire over his nephew's alleged involvement in bribery for a top railway board posting, resigned today as Railway Minister.
According to sources and TV reports, Bansal sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this afternoon.
The sources said Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge may be country's new Railway Minister.
However, the Prime Minister had reportedly said he wants Ashwani Kumar to continue as Law Minister.
The corruption charge against Bansal, involving his nephew Vijay Singla has brought to fore that the post of a Member in the Railway Board was bribed for as much as Rs 10 crore.
Singla was apparently caught accepting bribe money of Rs 90 lakh as part of a deal to appoint, Mahesh Kumar, Member (Staff) to the more lucrative Member (Electrical) post.
