A fortnight after he met AICC office bearers and general secretaries in a bid to revamp the party, Gandhi today interacted with state Congress chiefs and Congress Legislature Party leaders.
With several legislative assembly elections due this year, such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Karanataka, the attempt to strengthen the organisation assumes significance. As in charge of the party’s Central Election Coordination committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he is ascertaining views across the leadership at the Centre and the states.
The only other seniors present at today’s day-long meetings were party treasurer Motilal Vora and general secretary Janardan Dwivedi.
Gandhi was reportedly keen to hear the views of the 48 leaders present at the meeting, which included PCC chiefs and CLP leaders.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, who were the first to speak at the session, urged the Congress leadership to resolve the Telengana issue at the earliest.
