Uttarakhand government will soon take up with the Centre the issue of facilitating supply of gas to three gas-based power plants in the state which are yet to become operational, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said on Monday.

"Adequate supply of gas to three gas-based power plants of Kashipur is our commitment. My predecessor, Vijay Bahuguna, had held talks with Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) regarding this. "I will soon take it up with the Prime Minister and GAIL authorities to ensure that these plants get enough supply of gas for their normal functioning," Rawat said in reply to a question from Congress MLA, Nav Prabhat, on the opening day of the three-day session of the state Assembly here.

A 450-MW power plant of Savanti Pvt Ltd, 225-MW plant of Bita Infratech and a 225-MW plant of Gama Infrafo based at Kashipur in Udhamsingh Nagar district have not been able to function due to non-availability of gas.

"We are ready to negotiate at all levels for this, but there is a ban on construction of gas-based power projects till 2015-2016 due to short supply of LPG," he said.
