Responding to the protest call of Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India opposing the Centre's decision to levy service tax on air conditioned (AC) restaurants, members of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of Odisha (HRAO) on Monday shut their restaurants for about eight hours.
"We criticise the Central government decision to levy service tax on the AC restaurants. The members of the association shut their restaurants from 9 am to 5 pm," said JK Mohanty, Chairman - HRAO.
HRAO has about 280 hoteliers as its members."But food was served for in-house guests in hotels," Mohanty said.
