Kerala Government today announced the appointment of retired High Court Justice Shivarajan as the judicial commission to enquire about the Solar Power scam. Justice Sivarajan was a judge at the Kerala high court from 1994 to 2004.
The commission has to complete the enquiry in six months time.
Chief minister Oommen Chandy said that the government’s decision is in the light of Kerala high court’s stand not to provide the services of a sitting judge for the enquiry.

The government twice sought the court’s permission to grant the services of a sitting judge, but the High court denied it. The opposition insists that the judicial enquiry should be under a sitting judge of the High court.
Meanwhile, the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) opposed this move and insisted that sitting High Court judge should be engaged for the enquiry.
V S Achuthanandan, opposition leader said that the LDF would not accept this decisions and would continue its agitation till a sitting High Court judge is engaged for the enquiry.
