The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed an amendment Bill which allows the panel to appoint the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director even if one of the three members is absent.
The Bill - Delhi Special Police Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2014 - was cleared by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. It has amendments that allows the panel to select a CBI chief even if one of the three members are unavailable.
It also provides for having the leader of the single largest opposition party in Parliament as a member of the panel, as there is no recognised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha at present.
